It helps to tell us: whether you're a parent or a child account, the phone number on the account, what you expected to happen, and what happened instead.

🔑 Signing in

My sign-in code hasn't arrived

FamJam signs you in with a six-digit code by text message — there's no password. If it hasn't arrived:

  • Check the country code is right (New Zealand numbers start +64, and the leading 0 is dropped)
  • Give it a minute — codes can be slow on some networks, and you can only request a new one every 60 seconds
  • Make sure you have signal and aren't in airplane mode
  • Codes expire, so if one turns up late, request a fresh one

Still nothing? Email us with the number you're trying and we'll look it up.

I've changed my phone number

Email us from a number or address we can match to the account and we'll move it across.

👋 Setting up your family

How does my child join?

A parent sets up the family first, then invites the child from Family → Manage my family → Add a child. Your child gets a code or QR to scan. A child cannot create an account on their own, and cannot use FamJam until a parent has given consent — that consent is recorded.

How do I add another parent?

Family → Manage my family → Add a co-parent. Both parents see the same plans. You choose whether one approval is enough or both are needed.

Who has to approve a plan?

By default, the first parent to approve locks a plan in. Switch it to require both parents in Family → Plan approvals, or set it for one specific child on that child's schedule page.

Does my child find out when I decline?

Your choice. By default they're told. You can switch to keep it quiet, either for the whole family or per child.

📅 Plans and notifications

How does a plan work?

Your child picks an activity, a time, a place and who's coming, then sends it. It shows up on your home screen as a FamJam Check. Approve it and it locks in for everyone; decline it and it doesn't happen. Nothing locks in without a parent.

What are busy times?

Windows like school, sport or dinner when your child's friends see them as unavailable. Set them per child on their schedule page. They shape what friends can even propose.

I'm not getting notifications

  • Check FamJam is allowed to send notifications in your phone's settings
  • Check Focus, Do Not Disturb or a schedule isn't silencing them
  • Sign out and back in, which refreshes the device registration

🛡️ Safety and privacy

Does FamJam track where my child is?

No. There is no GPS and no live location, ever. The map shows where a plan is scheduled to happen — never where your child actually is.

Can strangers contact my child?

No. There is no public feed, no open messaging and no discovery by strangers. Children can only plan with friends they've added, and every plan still goes to a parent.

What data do you collect?

It's all set out in the privacy policy. We don't sell data and there are no ads.

💳 Cost

FamJam is free while we're in early access. One subscription per family is coming later — it will cover both parents and every child, and it will only ever be purchasable in the parent app. Children are never shown a purchase screen.

🗑️ Deleting an account

You can delete your own account in the app, and a parent can remove a child from Family → Manage my family → Delete a child. Either way there's a 30-day grace period before anything is permanently erased.
